Progetto Missioni Don Bosco – Missioni Don Bosco Project

In January 2020 my class and I took part in a project of Missione Don Bosco, a non-profit organization, whose aim isn’t based on imposing them a different lifestyle but on understanding and enhancing the cultural, social and religious realities of the local population.

Missioni Don Bosco Project was a fundraising project to support situations of degradation  and discomfort in Amazonia and Sierra Leone. The employees of the organization helped us during the simulation of a real-life situation of work, from the planning process to the realization of the product.

My group focused on the project related to the situation in a village in the northwest of the Amazon, where the illegal trafficking of alcohol and drugs from Colombia is the cause of social problems especially among minors.

We did the first part of the project in the Planning Department of Missioni Don Bosco and our task was to collect information on the Amazon and data obtained from official documents such as the UN 2030 Agenda. We were then asked to prepare a short presentation using the information collected with the addition of our reflections on the topic. The second part of the project was the most creative and fun one. We moved to the Communication Department where, divided into small groups, we worked on the creation of multimedia products and articles starting from what we had collected and developed in the previous weeks.

My group was assigned the creation of three advertisement spots on the fundraising campaign for the Amazon, both in Italian and English, to be published on social media Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. The project ended with the presentation of the final products to the school on the occasion of the feast of Don Bosco, January 31st.

With this project I developed two kinds of knowledge and skills. On the one hand there are the technical ones and on the other hand there are the personal and social ones. I discovered a lot about copyright and privacy and improved my skills in using social networks and programs that I already knew, such as PowerPoint. I also understood what a work environment is like. My group succeeded in working in groups and talking about our ideas respecting each other’s opinion. Ialso learnt how to create good relationships in a working context. Furthermore I discovered the different social situations in countries like Amazonia. I noticed how few people know about the condition of these countries and what kind of problems there are.

In conclusion, it has been a very formative experience, I would say the most useful work experience we have ever done with the school. Luckily we found very kind people who helped us and guided us in the best way.
